A WHOIS lookup lets you check the public registration record of any domain name — which registrar manages it, when it was created, when it will expire and which nameservers it points to. This information comes directly from the domain registry's official WHOIS/RDAP database.
Use it to verify ownership before buying a website, catch an expiring domain before you lose it, confirm your registrar and nameserver settings, or research a domain before a purchase, dispute or transfer.
